Pallet vs Shelf allocation
Short on pallet pick space? Do you have items that could fit on shelves, but unsure which items to put on them? Are you facing decisions regarding allocation of storage space?
Putting items on a shelf offers storage density advantages but has as a downside a higher time investment because of the effort put in breaking down pallets and putting away the items.
This method answers the following central question:
Given the tradeoff between putaway and pick efficiency, and the fact that pick space is limited (pallet picking in particular), what items should be put on a shelf and what items should be put on a pallet pick position?
this question is approached using the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC method.
